Who the F- is Scott?

When I started in growth nearly 10-years ago, it was still a field in its infancy. A handful of us early practitioners were challenging the status-quo of how business had always been done. Most of the tools, terms, and strategies were still being invented on the spot and shared amongst ourselves in a handful of forums.

Today, "growth" and especially "growth marketing" (shudder) have become buzzwords often misinterpreted as just performance-based marketing.

But to those who first invented the space – Sean Elis, Andrew Chen, Brian Balfour, Ryan Holiday, and others – growth is a complex, interdisciplinary field that blends marketing, product, UX, analytics, research, brand, media, sales, business development, partnerships, psychology, and corporate strategy. It blends both lean / agile methodology with human-centric design approaches. It believes that, above all else, when you put the bullshit aside, the goal of any company is to grow and these disciplines are nothing but means to that end.

I have dedicated my life and my career to this belief. I've never sought to be just good. I push myself to be the best by investing my time and building companies working on the toughest problems – democratizing knowledge and networks, disrupting long-entrenched industries, reinventing political participation and power structures to name a few. I love working on the "impossible" and am unfazed by ambiguity.

I've worn many hats–founder, executive, consultant, advisor, investor, and lecturer–but the constant thread is my passion for growth and innovation. This has enabled me to uniquely bridge multidisciplinary fields by developing custom frameworks and strategies that companies use to launch brands, dominate in competitive industries, raise valuations, and position for exits. Forged in the fires of experience and reinforced at some of the best universities in the world, my work tests the limits of expectations, earns board-room buy-in, and brings organizations together.

I build world-class, nimble, cross-functional teams designed around a culture of iteration, continuous learning, and data analysis. I put emphasis on cross-training employees and to help create more collaborative and comprehensive strategies and eliminate bottlenecks. I'm not one to live solely inside of meetings but am always ready and willing to get my hands dirty. Above all, I lead by the mantra of standing behind my team to make decisions and in front of them if those decisions are criticized because trust and camaraderie always produce faster, better results and stronger team dynamics.
